On Monday of August 16, 2021, Dr. Weeraphon Thongma, the President of Maejo University, and 4 organizations of the university that had been passed the assessment on Green Office at the national level and the University Green Office Operations Committee of the university jointly participated in the award ceremony for the G-Green Badges and the National Green Office Awards from the Department of Quality and Environment Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Mr. Jatuporn Burusphat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment sent a congratulatory message to the organizations that received the awards via the online system Green to Nature at the same time across the country.
Maejo University has participated in the green office audit since 2015, starting from the Faculty of Economics as the first organization. Later in 2017, the University Office Building and the Library Office building were added. Then, in 2018, Amnuay Yossuk Building joined in the audit, and in 2019, the Faculty of Business Administration Building and the Faculty of Animal Science and Technology Building participated in the audit.
For the year 2020, 4 organizations requested for assessment, namely the Library Office (for renewal), the University Office (for renewal), Faculty of Science (the first time) and Faculty of Information and Communicate (the first time) with support from Office of Bio-Based Economic Development (Public Organization) and they all passed the Green Office audit at an excellent (G Gold) and very good (G Silver) levels according to the Green Office Promotion Program 2020 of the Department of Quality and Environment Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The mentioned awards were given to the organizations that promoted behavior change in the office, reduce the use of energy and resources, reduce waste, reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Green House Gases: GHG) into the atmosphere and carry out activities that are environmentally friendly continuously which the Green Office Audit Committee at the national level has successfully assessed the accredited offices.
As for such awards, the committee conducted an assessment based on the criteria in 6 categories, namely: 1.) Policy formulation and improvement continuously, 2.) Communication and creating awareness, 3.) Use of resources and energy, 4.) Waste management, 5.) Environment
and safety in the office and 6.) Procurement and the results of the organization’s assessment. As a result of the audit of all 4 organizations of Maejo University, the outcomes were as follows:
Excellent Award (G Gold) for the Library Office, University Office (Excellent award for 2 consecutive years), and Faculty of Science (took the first assessment)
Very Good Award (G Silver) for the Faculty of Information and Communication (took the first assessment)
On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University delivered the award as an honor to the organizations that had passed the 4 audits, with Assistant Professor Dr. Thapan Chuenban, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mrs. Arisara Singpun, Director of the Library Office, Mr. Teerachai Tanruengporn, Director of Physical and Environmental Division, Mr. Somporn Kettaku, Head of Education Services and Student Affairs, Faculty of Information and Communication, as the representatives of each organization received such awards at the University Council Meeting Room, 5th Floor, University Office Building in Maejo University.
