On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the cutting ceremony for the first bouquet of cannabis flowers in the smart house of the Natural Agriculture Research and Development Center at Maejo University along with Dr. Sophon Mekthon, Chairman of the Board of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, Dr. Vitoon Danwiboon, Director of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, Dr. Somsak Akasil, Director-General of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amnuay Yotsuk, Chairman of the Maejo University Council, Assoc. Prof. Weeraphon Thongma, Acting President of Maejo University and Prof. Dr. Anat Tancho, Director of the Center for Natural Agriculture Research and Development of Maejo University jointly harvested the first flower of Thai medical marijuana strain in a project to plant and harvest 12,000 medical marijuana in an organic farming system at the industrial level. The marijuana plants were also planted outdoor for research studies with an organic farming system at the industrial level as a model for medical use at the household level under an agreement among the Department of Medicine, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, and Maejo University.
