On September 25, 2019, Associate Professor Dr. Weeraphon Thongma, Acting President of Maejo University presided over the opening ceremony of the project and released a bicycle group in the MJU Car-Free Day 2019 at the yard in front of the university office. This activity was organized by the Green University Strategy Steering Committee of Maejo University, in collaboration with the Green Office, the University Office, Division of Buildings and Venues and Maejo University Cycling Club (MJU Cycling Club). The MJU Car-Free Day 2019 activity was to campaigned jointly with the International Car-Free Day or World Car-Free Day to reduce car use and motorcycle use by traveling by a bicycle or walking. This was to reduce the use of vehicles that used fuel, to reduce air pollution, noise problems, traffic problems and accidents. Using of a bicycle was an option because it did not consume any fuel and it also resulted in a healthy cyclist. It did not pollute the emission of toxic fumes, caused no noise pollution problems and saved on travel expenses. The university had been campaigning this idea continuously. In the fiscal year 2019, 50 bicycles were purchased to give to various organizations on the campus for use and 30 more would be purchased additionally to give to university administration committee members and administrators to use in the university office so that the university personnel could participate in driving Maejo University towards a green university (Green University).
