On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Maejo University organized a project to assess the health of trees and compile data on large trees within the university for carbon offsetting. Associate Professor Chakkraphong Phimphimon, Vice President of Maejo University, was honored to preside over the opening ceremony, with Assistant Professor Dr. Yaowanit Tharachai, the project manager, giving a report.
On this occasion, we were honored to have Assistant Professor Banjong Sombunchai, Thailand’s “Tree Doctor”, and the Babyteam and Babytree team as speakers for both theory and practice, with staff from all departments participating in the training to use their knowledge as a guideline for caring for trees in each area and each department.
Maejo University has been established for over 90 years and has a large number of large trees. From the operation of green areas according to the Green University strategy, the university’s policy towards carbon neutrality, trees are an important mechanism because they are a source of oxygen and absorb air pollution. In addition, tree growth is a factor in calculating carbon sequestration values. Therefore, the activity of assessing the health and caring for large trees is an important part of promoting the university’s green areas sustainably.
