On Sunday, December 13, 2020, Mr. Charoenrit Sa-nguansat, Governor of Chiang Mai presided over the opening ceremony of the Chiang Mai Forest Fire Surveillance Drone Project. He thanked all sectors for working together to help resolve the Chiang Mai forest fire problems. Associate Professor Dr. Weeraphon Thongma, the President of Maejo University reported to him the objectives of the project which involved approximately 50 volunteers and pilot drones as well as concerned government agencies at the PT 106 Meeting Room in Plant Science and Technology Building of the Faculty of Agricultural Production at Maejo University.
Maejo University realized the importance of this in participating in sustainable haze pollution prevention and solution which is partially in the natural resource and environmental management project that is one of the university’s missions. Therefore, the university organized this training to provide knowledge in the use of drones for photography, to respond to disasters under international principles, and to support effective forest fire prevention. The activities covered all problematic areas with the same standards in terms of safety with users and communities.
The university assigned Mr. Jakkaphong Chaiwong, a lecturer of the Faculty of Agricultural Production with the Maejo Fire Cat Team for carrying out the project. He, on this opportunity, thanked Chiang Mai Governor, Chiang Mai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Conservation Area Management Bureau No. 16, Disaster Response Association, Easy 2018 Co., Ltd. and Systronic Co., Ltd. that cooperates in organizing this project and hoped that the activities could help monitor and solve the problems by suppressing forest fires promptly.
