On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Wiraphol Thongma, President of Maejo University, presided over the opening ceremony of the MJU Car Free Day 2025 “900,000 Steps: Walk to Reduce Carbon.” Associate Professor Chakkraphong Phimphimon, Vice President and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment, delivered a report and presented awards and certificates to participants at the Thasmindrabophit Sports Center, Maejo University.

The MJU Car Free Day 2025 “900,000 Steps: Walk to Reduce Carbon” activity was organized by the Subcommittee on Driving University Development and Rankings for Sustainability (SDG Impact: Green University and Healthy University) in the field of Sustainable Environment, in collaboration with the Physical and Environmental Affairs Division, the Student Development Division, the Student Organization, and the Student Council. The activity was organized under the “Driven University Development and Rankings for Sustainability (SDG Impact: Green University and Healthy University) in the field of Sustainable Environment” project. Participants’ steps were counted and recorded. Through the MUU Mobile application from September 10-24, 2025, to reduce air pollution by walking instead of using vehicles, which has been very well received, exceeding the set target. The executives, faculty, staff and students participated in the activity, with a total of 17,310,642 steps, covering a distance of 10,446.32 kilometers, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 16.23 tCO..mg / year, equivalent to planting 727 large trees. This is considered to be creating an organizational culture that is aware of and participates in striving for carbon neutrality and reducing carbon dioxide emissions to zero, in accordance with the university’s policy.
