On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Maejo University organized a project to assess the health of large trees on campus and compile data for carbon offsetting. Associate Professor Chakkraphong Phimphimon, Vice President of Maejo University, presided over the opening ceremony, with Assistant Professor Dr. Yaowanit Tharachai, project manager, giving a report.

Assistant Professor Banjong Sombunchai, Thailand’s “Tree Doctor,” and the Babyteam and Babytree teams, provided both theoretical and practical training sessions. Staff from all departments participated in the training, which provided guidelines for tree care in each area and department.

Maejo University, founded over 90 years ago, boasts a large number of large trees. Through its green space initiatives, in line with the Green University strategy and the university’s policy toward carbon neutrality, trees play a crucial role as oxygen generators and air pollutant absorbers. Furthermore, tree growth is a key factor in calculating carbon sequestration. Therefore, tree health assessment and tree care activities are crucial for promoting sustainable green spaces on campus.
