On Tuesday, October 22, 2019, Maejo University and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency of the Ministry of Energy (DEDE) had a memorandum of cooperation ceremony. Both parties agreed on “A Development of Curriculum and Activities in Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy for Higher Educational Institutions.” The MOU was signed by Associate Professor Dr. Weeraphon Thongma, Acting the President of Maejo University, and Mr. Sophon Manichote, Director of the Energy Human Resources Development Division who was authorized by the Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) as his representative. The administration teams on both sides were witnesses of the ceremony which was held in Ruang Phueng Meeting Room on the 5th Floor of the University Office Building. The signing of this academic cooperation was to develop jointly an instructional curriculum entitled “General Energy Responsibility” to be included in the Bachelor of Engineering Program of the Department of Energy Conservation Engineering which had a scope of work corresponding and covering with the work of the DEDE. It was hoped that it would make the curriculum accepted by higher educational institutions and students who had passed this course of study had the rights to take the exam to be responsible for ordinary energy. If they passed a standardized exam as specified by the DEDE, they could receive a certificate for being personnel responsible for energy from the DEDE.
In addition, both sides were required to develop courses related to energy conservation and renewable energy jointly for teaching including other courses for use in enhancing knowledge, understanding for individuals, and carrying out other activities as appropriate. These were to promote energy conservation and the use of renewable energy in the country sustainably.
